19 Century Man

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem!

Who Is That Masked Man?

19 Century Man is a graduate student in international development, which is much less interesting than it seems, if indeed it is interesting at all.

He speaks English with a neutral American accent, as the Boston accent of his early years was balanced out by living nearly a decade in suburban Fort Worth, Texas.

He speaks Spanish with a Korean accent and Korean with the accent of someone who has forgotten all the Korean he once knew. He speaks Swedish like someone with brain damage.

He has lived in the following cities: Marshfield, Southlake, Pittsburgh, Iksan-shi, Bogotá, Quetzaltenango and Denver and worked as a lawn mower, fast food cook, soccer referee, barback, waiter, delivery driver, English teacher, wilderness guide and receptionist, all poorly.

Georg Friedrich Hegel, John Kenneth Galbraith, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Werner Herzog, Emma Goldman, Karl Polanyi and Henry David Thoreau all seem like alright people to him.

This is his only known photograph, taken by Kevin Scott Simpson in 2007, on a hill-a-mountain just outside of central Hiroshima.

…and the cats - he forgot to mention the cats.
